28.08.2010 LALA SHEVKET MET WITH ALP AND CDP ACTIVISTS
On August 28, Leader of Azerbaijan Liberal Party Prof. Dr. Lala Shevket has met with the leadership and activists of Liberal Party (ALP) and Citizens and Development Party (CDP). At the meeting Lala Shevket has made an extensive report on the socio-political situation in Azerbaijan, the forthcoming parliamentary elections and the strategy of the newly created electoral bloc. After the speech Lala Shevket has answered the questions of the participants. CDP Chairman Ali Aliyev, ALP Chairman Avaz Temirkhan and Chairman of the Green Party Mayis Gulaliyev have participated at the meeting.
13.07.2010 OPINION LALA SHEVKET: Musavat Party has burnt all the bridges

"Musavat Party has burnt all the bridges and therefore it is absolutely impossible to unite with them in any way", Leader of the Azerbaijan Liberal Party Prof. Dr. Lala Shevket told Trend News. Leader of Azerbaijan Liberal Party Prof. Dr. Lala Shevket has issued a statement condemning the decision by an Azerbaijani court to sentence the imprisoned journalist Eynulla Fatullayev to an additional 2 and a half year of incarceration. ALP Leader considers the decision to be unjust, anti-humanist and totally based on political motives, being at the same time a sign of complete disrespect towards the European Court of Human Rights, which has demanded E. Fatullayev`s immediate release on April 22 of this year. ALP demands from the government to cease repressions against Eynulla Fatullayev and immediately release him from prison.
5.07.2010 LALA SHEVKET HAS RECEIVED THE NORWEGIAN AMBASSADOR
Leader of Azerbaijan Liberal Party (ALP) Prof. Dr. Lala Shevket has received today the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Azerbaijan Mr. Jon Ramberg in connection with the completion of his diplomatic mission and his departure from Azerbaijan. ALP acting chairman Avaz Temirkhan participated in the meeting. A wide range of issues has been discussed during the meeting including the socio-political situation in Azerbaijan, problems of democracy and political prisoners, geopolitical situation in the world, perspectives of Azerbaijani-Norwegian relations, etc.
30.06.2010 EU REPRESENTATIVE MET WITH THE AZADLIQ BLOC
Special Representative of the European Union for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby has met today with the Leaders of the "Azadliq" Political Bloc. A wide range of issues has been discussed during the meeting, including the political situation in Azerbaijan, problems with fulfillment by Azerbaijan of its commitments and obligations taken before the EU within the framework of the Action Plan, opposition`s position on the forthcoming parliamentary election, democratisation perspectives, problems with the freedom of assembly, the problem of political prisoners, repressions against the free press, etc.
10.04.2010 LALA SHEVKET EXPRESSED HER CONDOLENCES TO THE POLISH NATION
Leader of Azerbaijan Liberal Party Prof. Dr. Lala Shevket has sent a letter of condelences to the Ambassador of Poland to Azerbaijan. The letter says:
With the greatest shock and sorrow we have learned about the most terrible tragedy involving the death of the President of Poland Lech Kaczynski, his spouse and the members of the accompanying delegation in the catastrophic plane crash over Smolensk. The news terrified us and went down to the very soul. From the bottom of my heart I would like to express to You and in Your person the People of Poland my deepest and sincere condolences. The tragic death of Lech Kaczynski is a saddest moment not only for the People of Poland, but for all the free-thinking democrats around the world, for the efforts of Lech Kaczynski in advancement of democracy can never be overestimated, especially among the nations of the Eastern Europe, which have only recently thrown off the shackles of totalitarianism. I want to assure You that we all are deeply aggrieved by the pain suffered by the Polish Nation. We pray for the souls of the deceased. May the Almighty God rest their souls in heaven!
18.03.2010 AZERBAIJANI OPPOSITION CONDEMNS THE MADRID PROPOSALS
Opposition parties of Azerbaijan have discussed Madrid proposals on solution to the Qarabagh problem. Liberal Party, Popular Front Party, Citizans and Development Party, Democrat Party, National Independence Party, and Umid Party participated at the round table discussion. Opposition parties have condemned the proposal on holding a referendum in Nagorno-Karabakh, as unconstitutional and contradictory to the national interests of Azerbaijan. The opposition parties will hold mass actions and other events if the government does not refuse these proposals.
14.03.2010 OSCE DELEGATION MET WITH LEADERS OF AZERBAIJANI POLITICAL PARTIES
The high-level delegation from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to the South Caucasus, led by President Joao Soares and including President Emeritus Goran Lennmarker, has met today in Baku with the leaders of Azerbaijani political parties. Leader of Azerbaijan Liberal Party Lala Shevket, Chairman of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli, President of the Forum "For Azerbaijan" Eldar Namazov and leaders of other political parties have participated at the meeting. A wide range of issues including the Qarabagh conflict, problems with democracy in Azerbaijan, fate of political prisoners and imprisoned journalists and bloggers has been discussed at the meeting.
5.03.2010 OPINION About US House decision on the so-called "Armenian genocide"
Leader of Azerbaijan Liberal Party Lala Shevket does not believe that the Congress will pass the resolution. "But the Azerbaijani parliament, the head of state and Azerbaijani people should support Turkey and express our position. This is very important. We do not have a closer ally than Turkey. I do not think US-Turkey relations will be damaged. Turkey is a strong state and the US cannot solve the problems in the Middle East without Turkey.
